KTM ETS (KL Sentral & IPOH): A quick day trip to Ipoh

During my recent trip to Kuala Lumpur (KL), decided to try out the Electric Train Service (ETS) for the KL – Ipoh routing. It has been about 4 years since I last took the ETS service. The last was in 2013 there about.

This trip left behind pretty much interesting experiences as I took it in both directions from KL to Ipoh and back to KL on the same day. Here is a short lay down of my ETS experience. At the point of writing, the ETS platinum service runs from KL Sentral to Butterworth, while my journey ends at Ipoh, the train continues to Butterworth. While for the trip from Ipoh to KL on the ETS Gold service, it begins from Ipoh station and ends at KL Sentral.

KL Sentral to Ipoh (ETS Platinum)

There is only very few ETS Platinum service as it only serves very few stops – less than 5 stops between KL and Butterworth. Took the 9 am service, and it comes with free snacks – a bottle of soya milk, and two small packets of cookies. There is also on board washroom facilities as well as a cafe where you can purchase hot meals and beverages.

The return trip in the evening at 5:45 pm was a very relaxing ride back to KL. Though the ETS Gold service serves many more stops, it was a good sight seeing the sun setting in the background of the lush greeneries. Like any other train rides, there is bound to be service delay and railway congestion as ETS shares the train tracks with KTM Commuter and other cargo trains.
