Spend a short weekend across the causeway at Johor Bahru. While running some yearly errands – visiting the Dental and getting some medical supplies top up. This being my 4th visit to the property since 2016. More on my first visit in 2016 with lounge access here.
As with previous 3 visits at Renaissance, would usually take photos of the room and its amenities. Was assigned the club room per my booking – was informed that Club floors are from 15 – 17 floors. Which makes perfect sense since the Club Lounge is on the 16th level.
The bathroom comes equipped with standard bathroom toiletries and rain shower. The Tokyo Milk brand of toiletries is standardized across all Renaissance hotels.
Note: This is not the full proper bathroom set up – missing hair towels.
- Pillow menu
It was a pleasant surprise that there is a pillow menu available from a category 2 Marriott hotel. The hotel boasts a selection of 4 different pillows.
- Foam (available in the room)
These pillows are available on request, however, subject to availability. Would suggest to request them early if you are planning a stay at Renaissance JB. Also, the Buckwheat pillow is quite mouldable and comfortable. As for lavender pillow, it was unable when I requested for one. Did not request for the memory pillow as I am not a fan of such pillows.
- Evening turndown
Evening turndown service is available upon request too. However, not to expect anything fanciful or thoughtful gestures such as placing a cup and water by the bedside. Moreover, they do a good job at light housekeeping, and drawing the curtain and making the room ready for bedtime. This could be requested via a phone call or the chat function via the Marriott BonVoy app.
- Club Lounge
This property has a club lounge serving Breakfast, Evening hors d’oeuvres, Cocktails and light snacks. The lounge is open daily from 6am to 10:30pm. The Lounge can get quite busy from 6pm to 7pm when most guests will turn up for the evening hours and to catch the sunset – which is very Instagram worthy.
- Cafe BLD
Breakfast is also served at the Cafe BLD. In comparison to the first visit, the breakfast service has indeed improved quite a bit compared to 2016; despite it being a busy weekend morning.
Some of the notable breakfast selections include the Noodle Station, Egg Station and Teppanyaki Station. It is also my first time trying Teppanyaki for breakfast – quite an eye-opener. There is more breakfast selection over at Cafe BLD compared to the Club Lounge.
The hotel also boasts some very Instagram worthy sights and views from both the outdoor area at the Club Lounge and the Swimming Pool deck. There is also the well equipped 24 hours gym, and it seems like there is also a spa being added – did not notice its existence during previous visits.
Also, it is possible to catch both the sunrise and sunset from the lift lobby of the higher floors too. Sunrise is visible from the rooms facing the swimming pool, while sunset is visible from the rooms facing the AEON Permas Jaya side or at the outdoor area of the Club Lounge.
The location of the hotel is in the township of Permas Jaya – which is accessible by public bus and Grab from JB Sentral. There is the AEON Permas Jaya Shopping Centre, as well as many fast food, pubs, massage, night eateries around the vicinity within walking distance that serves good local good at very neighbourhood pricing. There is also a new Korean BBQ, laundry shop and grocery supermarket across the road from the hotel.
