This is definitely a late post since my birthday is already over by a month now. To give a bit of a background story, I started celebrating birthdays in hotels since 2015 – with a SPG property at Sheraton Towers Singapore. That was the first time I did so – without much of any hype. Then fast forward to 2017 when I begin staying at Marriott after the Starwood + Marriott merger.
In my 30s I have had birthday stays at JW Marriott South Beach Singapore and more recently Sheraton PJ, Malaysia. When comparing the 2 different hospitality levels, there is definitely differences in the way the rooms are configured and the special surprises both hotels threw in.
JW Marriott had small cake, a bottle of champagne, and fruit platter along with my request of 8 small roses.
White Sheraton PJ got me upgraded to their Executive Suite, had folded towel shape animals and cake, a nice balloon sculpture, and small slice of cake and some local delights.
As it seems, Malaysia has much better hospitality services – in general. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant and memorable experience I had with both – different year and location.
